Der Bootloader von W2K/XP besteht aus drei Komponenten: ntdetect.com, ntldr und boot.ini.
Mit Windows Vista werden diese drei Bausteine durch einen einzelnen ersetzt, den neuen Bootloader "bootmgr".
Manuelle Eingriffe wie in die boot.ini sind nicht mehr möglich, weil es sich bei "bootmgr" um eine Binärdatei handelt.

Für Veränderungen am Bootloader liefert Microsoft das Kommandozeilentool "bcdedit" mit.
Dieses ist jedoch sehr komplex und erfordert gründliche Einarbeitung.

Weil Normalanwender mit bcdedit schlichtweg überfordert sein dürften, ist damit zu rechnen, dass es zahlreiche
Tools geben wird, die eine grafische Oberfläche für die Bearbeitung des Bootloaders bieten.
Das erste ist auch schon da, und es ist sogar Freeware:

Nachtrag: Das Tool gibt es offenbar gleich zweimal, nämlich noch unter dem Namen EasyBCD - die beiden jeweils aktuellen Versionen liegen nur ein paar Tage auseinander - am einfachsten mal beide Seiten beobachten, welches Tool letztlich weitergepflegt wird:

Ah -
jetzt wird's interessant für Leute wie mich, die vorhaben tun täten :D,
Vista parallel zu installieren, weil sie keinen Testrechner haben.
Bisher war das der Grund, warum ich nicht daran interessiert war, Vista zu testen,
freien Disk-Speicherplatz hätte ich genug dafür...

Noch eine Frage dazu:
Nach allem, was ich bisher gelesen habe, ist es nicht möglich,
Vista irgendwo (z. B. D oder so) zu installieren und trotzdem von C zu booten,
oder irre ich mich da?
 
ich will auch geliebt werden ...
